Photoshop for Photographers Workshops

Check the full list of Workshops on the Main Calendar Page

In these digital imaging workshops we explore the possibilities of using Photoshop, the most respected photo imaging sortware on the market, as your digital 'darkroom'. We use Photoshop CS, CS2, and CS3, but most techniques learned can also be applied to working with Photoshop Elements and other layer based photo editing programs.

The workshops are broken into specific areas of focus, to give more in-depth knowledge and experience in each topic. Space is limited to 3 participants per workshop, to give considerable one on one time with the instructor. You will leave the workshop with a comprehensive workbook, as well as a print and CD file of your work from the day.

Workshops can often be scheduled upon special request, so if you don't see a date on the website that works for you, please contact us.

Basic Introductory Photoshop for Photographers Workshop

12:30-5:00, $125.00

Photoshop for Photographers workshop - Adirondack mountains fine art print of the peaks from Mount Jo, New York stateJumpstart your Photoshop experience with this intensive afternoon Photoshop for Photographers and Artists Workshop.

After a brief introduction, we'll jump into the various tools in Photoshop that are specific to working with photographs. Next we will introduce an efficient and comprehensive, easy-to-use 'system' of adjustment layers and masks that work with a series of logical steps to produce a vibrant print from a digital file. This process works well for images from either a digital camera or a scanned image file. If you do not have a digital image, we can scan a print image on our flatbed scanner, or scan your positive or negative film on our film scanner.

Once a person becomes comfortable with this layer 'system', it may be possible to color correct some photos in as little as 20 to 30 minutes. While fine tuning more complicated images can take hours and use various advanced color management techniques, this system helps to ease whatever corrections need to be done initially and allows for any future changes to be made quickly without affecting the original master digital file.

Day Long Intensive Photoshop for Photographers Workshop

10:00-5:00, $195.00

During the morning and early afternoon we will follow a similar outline as in the basic introductory workshop, learning the tools and a basic layer system. We will follow that with advanced color techniques, as well as touching on the possibilities of photo merge and image restoration.

This is a great workshop if you are traveling a distance in order to take the workshop, or just want an intensive Photoshop crash-course.

Advanced Color Workshop for Photographers and Artists

12:30-5:00, $125.00

This workshop builds on techniques taught in the basic course. We'll briefly overview the Photoshop tools and our layer system, and then spend the day further exploring Photoshop's capabilities for color correcting images through layers and masking. Learn more techniques for bringing out detail in the shadows and highlights of an image, balancing color tones, properly increasing contrast, and more.

HDR ( High Dynamic Range) / Stitching / Photo Merge Workshop

12:30-5:00, $125.00

Hand stiching panoramas is one of our specialties here at Wild Visions! In this half-day workshop you will learn how to transform your images so that detail matches between the stitched and composited image sections. We follow that by color correcting the separate pieces to create a seamless final product.

We can then apply many of the same techniques to do HDR work and blend multiple exposures of an image. This is a way to capture both the shadow and highlight detail, blending exposures in Photoshop to give you an end product that showcases a full tonal range.

Since detail needs to match up well in the blended images, it's best to bring along images to work with that you have taken using with a tripod.

Image Restoration

12:30-5:00, $125.00

Learn how to use the clone stamp, healing brush, image selections, and other tools to take out scratches and other unwanted objects from your photos. We will go over the tools, and then dive into working with the photos, giving you lots of one on one time with the instructor to experiment and learn the subtleties that make these tools work to their optimal capacity.

Private Photoshop Lessons

$65 per hour, 2 hour minimum

If you wish to have the lessons at your home, this fee includes an additional 30 minutes of travel time. There will be fees for travel beyond that amount. Private lessons are also available at the Wild Visions office in Brant Lake.

If you have questions or need more information, please

Email us or contact us by mail or phone.

Instructor, Greta Heilman, has been working with Photoshop full time in the Wild Visions, Inc digital darkroom office since 2001, doing all of the scanning work and color correction on Carl's photographs. His digitally mastered images have been published in magazines, calendars, books, posters, catalogs, advertising, and as fine art prints. Their goal with photo enhancement is to provide as much realism as possible with the final image, so there will be little discussion on manipulation of the image beyond reality - though some of the techniques we will use are similar to those used for image manipulation. While all of our computers are PC based, the techniques taught in this Photoshop workshop are similar to those used on a Mac.

The workshop fees include instruction, a computer to use for the workshop, and any CD's, paper, and materials needed for the digital imaging work.

Please note - for folks with allergies - we have cats in the house which can be kept out of the area we do the Photoshop workshops in. If you are very sensitive to cats this could still be an issue for you...
